Challenge: To create a 32 page publication which celebrates the functions and appearance of a barometer. A barometer measures the atmospheric pressure to forecast weather and determine altitude.
Solution: The narrative dissects the instrument and explains what function the barometer has and how to forecast the short term weather. Starting at the front of a barometer, the dial, and goes through the internal pieces in a stop motion movement and ends with the back of a barometer. The audience can look inside the french folds and discover the name of the component and what it does. I drew pieces of the barometer and laser cut the shapes before letter pressing them onto weather maps. There are transparent pages with the composition of the parts on, creating a layering effect, showing the viewer how the barometer looks inside.
The publication teaches people how to predict the weather in a visually interesting way.
